Care Home Fundraiser for Heeley Bank Care Home

Heeley Bank Care Home in Sheffield recently hosted a fundraiser that united staff, residents, and the community in support of the home’s residents. Organised by our dedicated Activities team, the event featured a coffee afternoon on Wednesday, February 5th, and a remarkable long-distance run by Activities Coordinator, Ciro, from Sheffield to Manchester the following day.

The coffee afternoon was a great success, raising funds for multiple initiatives that will enrich the lives of our residents. The goal? To fundraise for the resident’s fund and welcome a Therapy Bunny to our home—an addition we believe will provide comfort and joy. The activities team at Heeley Bank also placed an order for duck eggs, hoping to hatch ducklings in time for Easter. A portion of the proceeds will also kickstart the creation of a sensory garden, a tranquil space for our residents to enjoy.

In a touching gesture of gratitude, some funds will be donated to support dementia-related charities as part of Ciro’s upcoming Dementia collaboratives work. He is passionate about giving back to the cause, and his commitment to our residents is truly inspiring.

The coffee afternoon wouldn’t have been the same without the wonderful support from local businesses like Greggs, which kindly donated food, and generous prize contributions for our raffle from Manchester United, Sheffield United, and others. To add a fun twist, staff also participated in a dress-down day, with donations going towards the fund.

Ciro’s marathon effort on Thursday, February 6th, took the fundraiser to the next level. Running an incredible 64.67 km from Sheffield to Manchester, Ciro showed the true spirit of dedication. His determination not only raised additional funds but also highlighted his unwavering commitment.

A message from Ciro: The fundraiser was amazing, we received some brilliant feedback from our staff, residents and their families saying how nice it was for everyone to be involved for such a good cause. It took me a lot of time and effort to get everything organised so I’m glad things worked out beyond how I imagined. The run on Thursday was difficult, I set off at 2am and ended up in the Peak District at around 6am where the terrain was almost impossible to run on and there was sheep everywhere! Coming out of the peaks there was only 15 miles left, and I knew the end was in sight, arriving in Manchester I couldn’t feel my legs anymore and it had hit 12 hours of nonstop running, so it was a huge relief once I made it.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the staff, family members, and local businesses who contributed to the success of this fundraiser. Your generosity and support will help make a lasting impact on the lives of our residents, from welcoming our new furry friend to building a peaceful sensory garden. We look forward to introducing our Therapy Bunny soon. A special thank you to Ciro for his outstanding efforts in organising the event and completing the marathon—what an incredible achievement!
